World Summit on Counter-Terrorism
ICT's 8th International Conference - September 11, 2008
Workshop - Aviation Terrorism:
Common Sense or Ticking Boxes?
This workshop will address the current issues being faced by the global aviation security community. Whilst the threats have long been identified, a response mechanism that provides for optimum passenger facilitation, politically acceptable techniques and effective security continues to pose a challenge. Regulators have drafted procedures that ensure that all passengers and baggage is screened, but are the processes achieving their goals or are we simply ticking boxes? As terrorist groups stay one step ahead of the game, how can we develop a system that will respond to all future events rather than just concentrating on the last plot. Naturally, given the Israeli context of this workshop, there will be discussion about the pros and cons of profiling versus the seemingly international standard of treating all passengers the same.
