World Summit on Counter-Terrorism

 ICT's 8th International Conference - September 11, 2008

Workshop - Countering Political Radicalization Processes

The aim of this workshop is to bring together theory and practice in counter-radicalisation. While academics have made considerable progress in understanding why individuals embrace political extremism and political violence, a lot of questions remain unanswered. At the same time, governments across the world have launched – often highly innovative – programmes in order to address the threat. The workshop will bring together scholars with practitioners and allow them to exchange their insights and experiences as well as evaluate which instruments of the counter-radicalisation toolbox are effective and which ones are not. Academics will shed light on the latest research and evaluate some of the meta-approaches in radicalisation and counter-radicalisation, whereas policy practitioners will detail the experiences gained in their respective countries. Participants include counter-radicalisation officials from several European countries, leading scholars and a former UK organiser for the radical group Hizb-ut Tahrir.
