World Summit on Counter-Terrorism
ICT's 8th International Conference - September 11, 2008
Workshop - Stepping Into and Stepping Out of Terrorism
Chair: Mr. Michael Whine
The radicalisation processes that lead to terrorism may be compared to a conveyor belt, onto which the participant can step.
Governments and their agencies are now examining the processes that are involved more closely in order to understand them, and particularly to learn how and why the Islamist groups can successfully penetrate the Muslim mainstream.
Some governments fail to understand the global and long term aims of the Islamists, or to react in a consistent manner, and their counter policies have sometimes been short term, ill-informed and lacking strategic perception.
Our workshop aims to examine these processes in Europe, both generally and by reference to specific Islamist groups’ activities, as well the means by which governments are beginning to counter them.
