Lt. Col. Jeremy Bartel, United States Army War College Fellow, ICT, IDC Herzliya, Israel
Lt. Col. Bartel spoke about the impact that 9/11 had on America as a nation and all of its citizens. He shared his own story regarding the events of 9/11. Initially, he could not believe that an attack had actually occurred on American soil. He recalled the first time he was able to speak with his wife and how heavy the realization was that their children would grow up in a world tainted by terror. He emphasized the fact that terror does not discriminate based on nationality, age or gender and how it is a tragedy within itself that children would have to grow up understanding that. Lt. Col. Bartel also took a moment to remember the 3,000 victims who died in the attacks, emphasizing the amazing bravery shown by so many Americans including those on flight 93, on that day. He concluded his remarks by reminding the audience that the rubble had been cleared out, New York had been rebuilt and the United States and its army have grown and adapted to face this new threat.
