Dr. Yoaz Hendel serves as the Head of the Institute of Zionist Strategy since May 2012. He served in the Israel Defense Force (IDF) as a fighter and a commander in the Israeli Navy Seals for six years. He holds the rank of major in the Reserves where he continues to serve.
Dr. Hendel received his Ph.D. from Tel-Aviv University on ”Intelligence techniques in the Ancient World - from the Hasmonean Revolt to the Bar Kochba Revolt.” During that time, he served in various capacity at the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University and at the Begin-Sadat Center at Bar Ilan University. He lectured on terror and guerrilla warfare at the Department of Political Science of Bar Ilan University from 2009-2011.
Hendel has published two books. In 2010, he wrote Let the IDF Win,together with Professor Zaki Shalom on the subject of the Al Aksa Intifada and the struggle against terror. The book won the Moldovan Prize for Military Literature. In 2011, Yoaz Hendel and Yaakov Katz published Israel vs Iran - the Shadow War, which reviews the nature of the war between Israel and Iran since the Second Lebanon War.
In the summer of 2011, Hendel was appointed head of the Public Diplomacy Directorate at the Prime Minster’s Office and left this position in April 2012.
